Oorsprong

De Monstera deliciosa 'Full Mint' borsigiana Variegata is een zeldzame cultivar van de bekende gatenplant, afkomstig uit de tropische regenwouden van Midden- en Zuid-Amerika. De ‘borsigiana’-vorm is een compacter groeiende variatie die sneller klimt en zich makkelijker laat vormen.

Kenmerken

Wat deze plant onderscheidt is de uitzonderlijke mintkleurige variegatie. De bladeren zijn groot, licht glanzend en vertonen bij volgroeide planten soms ingesneden vormen, kenmerkend voor de soort. Elke bladtekening is uniek, wat deze plant nóg specialer maakt. Door de stabiele genetische basis van deze variegata is de kans op terugval naar volledig groen veel kleiner.

Verzorging

Licht

Plaats de plant op een lichte plek, bij voorkeur met gefilterd zonlicht. Te weinig licht kan de variegatie doen vervagen, terwijl direct zonlicht de lichtere delen kan verbranden.

Temperatuur

Deze plant voelt zich het beste bij temperaturen tussen 18 en 28°C. Vermijd koude tocht of plotselinge temperatuurwisselingen.

Substraat

Gebruik een luchtig, goed doorlatend substraat. Zo krijgen de wortels voldoende zuurstof en wordt water goed afgevoerd.

Luchtvochtigheid

Een hoge luchtvochtigheid (rond de 60–80%) bevordert de gezondheid van de bladeren. Regelmatig sproeien of een luchtbevochtiger kan hierbij helpen.

Voeding

Geef in het groeiseizoen (lente en zomer) om de twee weken een evenwichtige, verdunde kamerplantenvoeding zonder hoge stikstofwaarden. In de herfst en winter mag je het rustiger aan doen met kamerplantenvoeding.

Water geven

Laat de bovenste laag van het substraat opdrogen tussen gietbeurten. Geef bij voorkeur gedemineraliseerd water om bladschade door kalk te voorkomen.

Bloei

Hoewel bloei in huis zeldzaam is, kan de plant in ideale omstandigheden na enkele jaren een bloeiwijze vormen die lijkt op een maïskolf, omhuld door een lichtgekleurde schutblad. Toch wordt deze plant voornamelijk gewaardeerd om zijn spectaculaire blad.
